What It Is

We believe in the beauty… and power… of sharing stories: the story of a family, the story of a disease, the story of challenge and hope. As a keynote speaker and emcee, Karla has had the honor of emceeing galas of thousands of people, giving the keynote address at conferences and fundraisers and leading the largest Alzheimer’s walk in the country. Her passionate and sincere style always resonates, as she offers empathy and inspiration to everyone in the audience.

THE TRUTH ABOUT ALZHEIMER'S

More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s. By 2050, that number is projected to jump to nearly 13 million.

1 in 3 seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another dementia… more than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined.

In 2021, Alzheimer’s and other dementias will cost the country $355 billion. By 2050, that cost could jump to $1.1 trillion.

More than 11 million Americans work as unpaid caregivers for people with Alzheimer’s or other dementias, providing an estimated 15.3 billion hours of care… valued at nearly $257 billion.

Between 2000 and 2019, deaths from Heart disease have dropped 7.3% while Alzheimer’s deaths have increased 145%.

Older Black Americans are about 2x likely… and older Hispanics are about 1.5x likely… to have Alzheimer’s or other dementias as older Whites.

Worldwide, around 50 million people have dementia, and there are nearly 10 million new cases every year.

Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia and may contribute to 60–70% of cases.
